What is a dumpster mover?
A dumpster mover is a battery powered walk behind or rider machine that hooks to a waste container and pushes or pulls it under its own power. A bracket bolts or welds to the dumpster, the mover latches on, and one person walks a full bin out to the compactor or the curb.

Weigh a full bin, then read your ramp. Most properties land on the 5,000 lb Standard, garages and heavy commercial waste want the 10,000 lb HD, and roll off boxes need the RollOffCaddy.
How heavy is a loaded dumpster?
Heavier than people guess, which is why this category exists. An eight yard front load bin packed with wet commercial waste routinely runs past 2,000 lb, and a compacted bin runs well past that. The empty weight on the side of the container tells you nothing useful about what your staff are actually pushing.
Weigh a full bin on your worst day rather than an average one, then size up if the route has a grade. Pushing a loaded container up a garage ramp is where both the machine and the person get hurt, and push and pull forces are exactly what the NIOSH ergonomic guidelines for manual material handling warn about.
Which dumpster mover matches your bins?
- Up to 2,000 lb. The WasteCaddyLite is the entry machine for small properties and lighter bins, running a 36V three battery system at 0 to 3 mph.
- Up to 5,000 lb. The WasteCaddy Standard is the volume seller for apartment and commercial properties. Brackets bolt or weld to each dumpster you want to move.
- Up to 5,000 lb, long routes. The Ride-On Dumpster Mover carries the operator and runs 0 to 6 mph forward, which is the one to pick when the trip from the corral to the curb is long.
- Up to 10,000 lb and inclines. The WasteCaddy HD is rated for the heavy work and for severe grades such as underground parking garages.
- Roll off and compactors. The RollOffCaddy moves roll off boxes and self contained compactors up to 50,000 lb on a 36V or 48V system.
- Loose trash and dump work. The Trash Hauler and the Dump Hopper carry waste rather than tow a bin, for properties collecting from multiple points.
How the bracket and the receiver work
A dumpster mover does not grab a bin. A receiver bracket is bolted or welded to each container you want to move, and the mover latches into that bracket. Order one bracket per dumpster, which is the part most first time buyers forget to budget for.
That design is why one machine covers a whole property. Fit brackets to every bin on site and a single mover services all of them, instead of buying a machine per container.
Why a dumpster mover instead of a truck or a crew
Three people leaning on a full bin is the alternative most properties are running today, and it is the expensive one. Back and shoulder strain from pushing waste containers is a well documented injury source, and a single claim costs more than the machine.
Using a pickup or a work truck to shove bins is the other common workaround and it damages both. A battery powered mover works indoors and in trash rooms with no exhaust, runs quietly enough for early morning collection at a residential property, and gives the operator controlled speed in reverse, which is where most bin damage happens.
What these movers will not do
They do not lift, tip or empty a container. A dumpster mover moves a bin horizontally and nothing else. Emptying is still the hauler’s job.
Rated capacities are for level ground. Surface, wheel condition on the bin and incline all change real performance, and a bin with seized casters will defeat a machine that is rated well above its weight. Fix the wheels first.
